Wapiti Ranger Station
Die Wapiti Ranger Station ist eine Einrichtung des United States Forest Service und gilt als älteste Ranger-Station in den Vereinigten Staaten.[1] Die Station befindet sich im Shoshone National Forest im US-Bundesstaat Wyoming und wurde seit ihrer Erbauung 1903 fortwährend genutzt. Sie war die erste Ranger-Station des Forest Service, die mit Bundesmitteln gebaut wurde. Sie wurde mit einheimischem Forstholz errichtet und besitzt noch immer dieselbe regelmäßige Baustruktur. 2005 wurden einige Verbesserungen, wie die Ersetzung von morschem Holz, vorgenommen.
Die Wapiti Ranger Station wurde am 23. Mai 1963 als National Historic Landmark eingestuft[2] und am 15. Oktober 1966 ins National Register of Historic Places aufgenommen.[3]
Die Station befindet sich 48 Kilometer westlich von Cody auf der U.S. Route 14/16/20, zwischen Cody und dem Osteingang des Yellowstone-Nationalpark.[4]
