William Ramsay, 1. Earl of Dalhousie bis 1633 2. Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie (* nach 1602; † November 1672) war ein schottischer Politiker und Soldat.
Familie
Ramsay war der älteste Sohn von George Ramsay, 1. Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie und Margaret Douglas. Er wuchs auf dem Anwesen der Familie in Carrington, Midlothian auf. Er war in erster Ehe mit Margaret of Southhesk und in zweiter Ehe mit Jocosa Apsley verheiratet und war Vater von drei Töchtern und vier Söhnen.
Leben
1617 und 1621 war er Mitglied des schottischen Parlaments und nahm die Interessen des Bezirks Montrose wahr. Am 29. Juni 1633 wurde ihm der Titel 1. Earl of Dalhousie verliehen. Als Mitglied der Armee der Covenanters baute er ein berittenes Regiment auf, als dessen Kommandeur er an den Schlachten von Marston Moor 1644 und Philiphaugh 1645 teilnahm. Trotz dieser Beteiligung unterstützte er später Karl II.. 1646 nahm er die Aufgabe eines Sheriff in Edinburghshire wahr.
