Drachm

Ein Dram ist eine Einheit der Masse, ein so genanntes Handelsgewicht. Es wird hauptsächlich in England und Nordamerika gebraucht.

Es gibt zwei unterschiedliche Einheiten mit dieser Bezeichnung

  • Dram (avoirdupois): das eigentliche Dram (Einheitenzeichen: dr.av. oder dr.)
  • Dram (apothecarius; troy) auch Drachm genannt: (Einheitenzeichen: dr.ap. bzw. dr.tr.)

Das Dram (avoirdupois) ist eine nicht SI-konforme Einheit der Masse. Der geklammerte Teil des Namens zeigt die Zugehörigkeit zum Avoirdupois-System (engl. avoirdupois (weight); altfranzösisch aveir de pois Ware von Gewicht) an.

Das Dram (avoirdupois) ist ein 256tel eines Handelspfunds.

Dram (apothecarius) und Dram (troy) bezeichnen eine nicht SI-konforme Einheit der Masse. Beide werden alternativ als Drachm (auch Drachme) bezeichnet. Sie werden hauptsächlich in England, den Niederlanden und den USA gebraucht.

Dram (troy) ist im Troygewichtssystem (engl. troy weight) das 60fache eines Grains:

1 dr.tr. = 3 s.ap. = 60 gr. = 3,8879346 Gramm

Der Name geht auf die französische Stadt Troyes zurück.

Das Dram (troy) findet Einsatz als Gewicht für Edelmetalle, Medizinalrezepturen und wissenschaftliche Bestimmungen. Daher auch die alternative Bezeichnung Dram (apothecarius), Teil das Apothecaries-System (vom Apotheker, lat.-mlat. apothecarius).
