Elmer McCollum.

Elmer Verner McCollum (* 3. März 1879 bei Fort Scott, Kansas; † 15. November 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland) war ein US-amerikanischer Biochemiker.

McCollum studierte an der University of Kansas. Er wurde an der Yale University promoviert; danach arbeitete er an der University of Wisconsin. Ab 1917 war er Professor an der Johns Hopkins University.

Er entdeckte mehrere Vitamine, so 1897 zusammen mit Marguerite Davis das Vitamin B1. Retinol entdeckte er 1913 ebenfalls zusammen mit Marguerite Davis.

Die Bezeichnung der Vitamine mit Großbuchstaben des Alphabets führte er 1916 ein.
