Envy ist eine freie Anwendung für die Linux-Systeme Ubuntu und Debian zur Installation von Grafikkartentreibern. Das Programm wurde mittels Python und PyGTK von Alberto Milone entwickelt. Sinn und Zweck dieses Programmes ist es, auf einfache Art und Weise die korrekten Grafiktreiber für das jeweilige System automatisch zu installieren, ohne Gefahr zu laufen, durch eventuell falsch gewählte Treiber sein System zu beschädigen.

Nach der Installation erkennt das Programm automatisch die im System verwendete Grafikkarte (unterstützt werden ATI und Nvidia-Karten). Basierend auf den Ergebnissen werden die passenden aktuellen Original-Treiber von den Webseiten des jeweiligen Anbieters ATI oder Nvidia heruntergeladen. Das Programm analysiert weitere Voraussetzungen und Abhängigkeiten, um daraus ein passendes Modul für das jeweilige System zu generieren. Als nächstes werden die Konfigurationsdateien des jeweiligen Systems angepasst (X.Org-Server durch die xorg.conf) und das System je nach Wunsch neu gestartet.

Die Software nimmt dem Anwender alle wichtigen Einstellungen ab und generiert die jeweils korrekte Datei für ihn. Da nur die Originaltreiber der Hersteller verwendet werden und zudem keine anderen Softwarepakete deinstalliert werden, ist das erzielte Ergebnis in den meisten Fällen sehr gut.

Das Programm wurde als freie Software unter der GNU General Public License (GPL) veröffentlicht und unterstützt aktuell die nachfolgenden Betriebssysteme und Architekturen:
