HMS Maori

Zwei Schiffe der britischen Royal Navy trugen den Namen HMS Maori nach dem Volk der Maori, den indigenen Bewohnern Neuseeland

  • Die erste HMS Maori war ein Torpedobootzerstörer der Tribal-Klasse, der 1909 vom Stapel lief und am 7. Mai 1915 vor Zeebrugge durch einen Minentreffer sank.
  • Die zweite HMS Maori (F24) war ein Zerstörer einer neuen Tribal-Klasse, der 1937 vom Stapel lief, im Zweiten Weltkrieg u.a. an der Jagd auf die Bismarck und an der Rettung von Überlebenden des deutschen Schlachtschiffs beteiligt war und am 12. Februar 1942 durch einen Luftangriff im Hafen von Valletta, Malta, versenkt wurde. Das Wrack ist heute ein beliebter Tauchplatz.
