(10) Hygiea (früher (10) Hygieia) wurde nach Hygieia, der Tochter des Heilgottes Asklepios aus der griechischen Mythologie, benannt. Mit einem Durchmesser von 409 km ist Hygiea der drittgrößte bekannte Asteroid im Hauptgürtel. Spektroskopische Untersuchungen ergaben, dass die chemische Zusammensetzung von Hygiea auffällige Übereinstimmungen mit den kohlenstoffhaltigen Meteoriten Warrenton und Ornans aufweist. Möglicherweise ist Hygiea der Ursprungskörper dieser Meteoriten.
