American Racing Series

Die Indy Lights war von 1986 bis 2001 die Nachwuchsklasse der Champ-Car-Serie, der wichtigsten Monoposto-Rennserie der CART-Organisation in den USA. Die Bezeichnung Indy Lights erhielt die Serie 1991. Gegründet wurde sie als American Racing Series (ARS).

Die Indy Lights war vergleichbar mit der heutigen Formel-1-Nachwuchsklasse GP2-Serie. Sie wurde 2001 wegen finanzieller Probleme des Veranstalters CART eingestellt. Die Indy Lights hat zwei Champ-Car-Meister, zwei IRL-Meister und zwei Formel-1-Fahrer hervorgebracht.

Später übernahm die Toyota Atlantic Series die Aufgabe der Nachwuchsförderung für die Champ-Car-Serie. Momentan (2007) trägt diese Rennserie die Bezeichnung Champ Car Atlantic Series.
