John Torrey um 1840

John Torrey (* 15. August 1796 in New York City; † 11. März 1873 ebenda) war ein US-amerikanischer Botaniker und Chemiker. Sein offizielles botanisches Autorenkürzel lautet „Torr.“.

Ehrungen

Die Zeitschrift Torreya (1901 bis 1945) sowie die Pflanzengattung Torreya aus der Familie der Eibengewächse (Taxaceae) sind nach ihm benannt.^[1]
