Level 3 (NYSE: LVLT), gegründet 1998, ist ein internationaler Anbieter von Kommunikationsdienstleistungen mit Sitz in Broomfield, Colorado. Der Sitz der deutschen Tochtergesellschaft ist Frankfurt am Main. Level 3 betreibt ein großes IP-Glasfasernetzwerk (Weitverkehrsnetz), mit einer Gesamtlänge von zirka 120.000 km (Stand 2007), welches von anderen Telekommunikationsunternehmen gemietet werden kann.

Level 3 ist ein sogenannter Tier-1-Carrier und betreibt mehrere Backbones und vier transatlantische Verbindungen von Europa nach Nordamerika. Das Unternehmen besitzt ein weltweit homogenes Netzwerk, verwendet also an jedem Standort identische Ausrüstung.

Zu den Kunden der Level 3 gehören 19 der 20 größten Telekommunikationsunternehmen. Neben Telekommunikationsleistungen bietet Level 3 auch Colocation an.

Level 3 betreibt derzeit in Deutschland fünf Großrechenzentren und Metro-Netze, d. h. innerstädtische Glasfasernetze, an den Standorten

Weltweit betreibt das Unternehmen 125 Stadtnetze.

Am 11. April 2011 verkündigte das Unternehmen den bisherigen Konkurrenten Global Crossing bis Ende des Jahres durch einen Aktientausch zu übernehmen.[1][2]
