Geographie
Die Region umfasst die pazifische Küste rund um die peruanische Hauptstadt Lima, die jedoch selbst nicht Teil der Region ist, sowie den angrenzenden Teil der zentralperuanischen Anden.
Die gebirgige Landschaft bringt einige Berge über 4.000 Meter hervor. Der höchste Berg ist der Morococha mit 5.182 Metern.
Vor der Küste liegen zahlreiche Inseln, die größten von ihnen sind San Lorenzo, Frontón, Pachacamac, Corcovado und Asia.
Geschichte
Die Region entstand im Jahre 2002, als bei der Einführung der Selbstverwaltung der Regionen das damalige Departamento Lima, dessen Hauptstadt die Stadt Lima war, in die drei Regionen Lima Metropolitana, Callao und Lima Provincias aufgeteilt wurde. Vorläufig wurde Huacho als Hauptstadt der neuen Region erwählt.
