Nahdatul Ulama (auch: Nahdlatul Ulama) , abgekürzt NU (arab. etwa Wiedererwachen der islamischen Rechtsgelehrten), ist eine am 31. Januar 1926 gegründete islamische Vereinigung in Indonesien.

Die Nahdatul Ulama hat eine geschätzte Mitgliedschaft von über 30 Millionen Menschen. Sie ist die größte islamische Nicht-Regierungsorganisation der Erde. NU steht ideologisch in Opposition zu den Muslimbrüdern und anderen fundamentalistischen Richtungen des Islam. Ihrer Auffassung nach verlangen die "heiligen Schriften" des Islam weder die Errichtung eines Kalifats noch die Einführung einer islamischen Jurisprudenz (Fiqh) als grundlegendes Rechtssystem. Für NU ist die Scharia allein eine Angelegenheit der persönlichen Glaubensanstrengung[1].

Nach der Gründung war zuerst Hasyim Asy'ari Vorsitzender, von 1984 an Abdurrahman Wahid, ein Enkel Hasyim Asy'aris, danach Hasyim Muzadi.
