Testaferrata

Fabrizio Sceberras Testaferrata (* 1. April 1757 in Valletta, Malta; † 3. August 1843 in Senigallia) war der bislang einzige maltesische Kardinal der Katholischen Kirche.

Er gehörte zur päpstlichen Diplomatie und war Mitglied der römischen Kurie. Testaferrata war u.a. Nuntius in der Schweiz und Bischof von Senigallia zwischen 1818 und 1843. Papst Pius VII. ernannte ihn in pectore im März 1816 zum Kardinal, was im Juli 1817 publiziert wurde.

Testaferrata nahm am Konklave von 1823 teil, das Papst Leo XII. wählte. Er gehörte hier zur pro-österreichischen Zelanti-Fraktion. Weiterhin nahm er am Konklave von 1829 teil, das Papst Pius VIII. erwählte, und am Konklave von 1830/ 1831, das Papst Gregor XVI. erkor.
