Das unheimliche Fenster (Original: "The Window") ist ein US-amerikanischer Spielfilm des Regisseurs und früheren Kameramanns Ted Tetzlaff aus dem Jahr 1949. Vorlage war die Story "The Boy who cried murder" von Cornell Woolrich.

Handlung

Ed Woodry, seine Frau Mary und Sohn Tommy wohnen in der New Yorker Lower Eastside. Eines nachts beobachtet Tommy, der auf der Feuerleiter schläft, wie der Nachbar Joe Kellerson einen Mord begeht. Niemand, dem er davon erzählt, glaubt ihm, da Tommy für seine lebhafte Fanbtasie bekannt ist und alle annehmen, er möchte sich nur wichtig tun. Sein Vater zwingt ihn sogar, sich bei den Kellersons zu entschuldigen. Kellerson plant nun, auch Bobby umzubringen. Als Bobbys Eltern eines Abends außer Haus sind, scheint der Plan aufzugehen. In letzten Minute kann Bobby jedoch gerettet werden.

Hintergrund

Der Regisseur Ted Tetzlaff war seit 1926 Kameramann in Hollywood. Seine letzte Kameraarbeit war Alfred Hitchcocks Berüchtigt (1946). Tetzlaff wechselte danach ins Regiefach. Das unheimliche Fenster war sein größter Erfolg. Er kostete nur rund 200.000 Dollar und spielte ein Vielfaches davon ein.

Der Cutter Frederic Knudtson wurde für den Oscar nominiert, der 12-jährige Bobby Driscoll erhielt den Academy Juvenile Award. Cornell Woolrich und Mel Dinelli erhielten den Edgar Award der Mystery Writers of America for das beste Drehbuch.
