Der Waiapu River ist ein 90 km langer Fluss in der Region Gisborne der Nordinsel Neuseelands.

Er entspringt der Raukumara Range und bildet dort streckenweise die Grenze zur Region Bay of Plenty. Der Fluss passiert den Ort Ruatoria und mündet bei Rangitukia in den Pazifik. Um den Fluss liegt das Stammesgebiet (Rohe) des Iwi Ngati Porou.

Der Fluss war zwischen Juli und Oktober 1865 Schauplatz von Kämpfen während der Neuseelandkriege.

Der Fluss hat zwei Quellflüsse, den Tapuaeroa River und den Mata River.
