Zeffirelli

Gianfranco Corsi, KBE (* 12. Februar 1923 in Florenz), bekannt unter dem Namen Franco Zeffirelli, ist ein italienischer Film-, Theater- und Opernregisseur.

Zeffirelli wurde international bekannt durch seine Film-Regie bei Shakespeares Romeo und Julia, wofür er 1969 für den Oscar nominiert wurde. Große Aufmerksamkeit erweckte darüber hinaus seine evangeliengetreue Bibelverfilmung Jesus von Nazareth im Jahre 1977.

1946 kam er zur Theatertruppe von Luchino Visconti, Paolo Stoppa und Rina Morelli.

Als Bühnenregisseur war Zeffirelli u. a. an der Mailänder Scala, der Wiener Staatsoper, der Metropolitan Opera, der Arena di Verona und der Comédie-Française tätig.

Zeffirelli erhielt 2004 eine Honorary Knighthood (KBE) von Großbritannien. Zeffirelli lebt offen homosexuell.[1] [2]

Zeffirelli engagierte sich auch politisch; zwei Legislaturperioden lang saß er für Silvio Berlusconis Forza Italia im Senat.[3]
