British World Airlines hat den Betrieb 2001 eingestellt. Die kursiv gesetzten Angaben beziehen sich auf den letzten Stand vor Einstellung des Betriebes.

British World Airlines war eine britische Fluggesellschaft. Sie wurde 1963 unter den Namen BUAF (British United Air Ferries) gegründet. Sie entstand aus einer Fusion der Gesellschaften Channel Air Bridge, gegründet 1959, und der Silver City Airways, die 1948 gegründet worden ist. 1967 gab es eine Umbenennung in British Air Ferries (BAF).

Dieser Name spiegelt das wider, wofür die Airline berühmt wurde. Sie bot mit Carvair-Flugzeugen Fährdienste an. Die Autos wurden in die große Fronttüre dieser Flugzeuge geladen. Strecken mit diesem Service, gab es zu den Kanalinseln, Frankreich, Belgien und in die Niederlande. 1971 wurde die Airline von der Transmeridian Air Cargo erworben, wobei sie jedoch ihr Corporate Identity behalten durfte und ziemlich autonom ihre Geschäfte tätigen konnte. Im Jahre 1988 gab es eine Umbemalung, die aber nicht lange Bestand hatte. 1992 erwarb BAF acht Flugzeuge der Marke BAC 1-11 aus Beständen der Konkurs gegangenen Dan Air und firmierte dann unter den endgültigen Namen British World Airlines, den die Airline bis zu ihrem Konkurs im Dezember 2001 behielt.

Der Name wurde nach dem Konkurs von der Firma BWA Group plc. übernommen. Allerdings wurde die EU-weite Betriebserlaubnis am 21. März 2002 entzogen[1]. Ehemalige Mitarbeiter der British World Airlines gründeten zeitgleich die Fluggesellschaft Astraeus[2].
