Die Region Greater St. Louis ist die Metropolregion um die Stadt St. Louis in Missouri. Diese Region erstreckt sich beiderseits des Mississippi River, der die Grenze zwischen Missouri und Illinois bildet. Der in Illinois gelegene östliche Teil der Region wird Metro-East genannt.
Die gesamte Region hatte bei der Volkszählung 2000 2.828.990 Einwohner, deren Zahl laut einer Schätzung im Jahr 2009 auf 2,698.687 zurück ging[1].

Geografie
Die Region Greater St. Louis liegt zu beiden Steiten des Mississippi, in den nördlich des Stadtzentrums der Stadt St. Louis der Missouri einmündet. Das Gebiet umfasst eine Fläche von 22.910 km².

Schienenverkehr
Die Region St. Louis, insbesondere die Stadt East St. Louis, war in der Vergangenheit einer der größten Eisenbahnknotenpunkte des Landes. Auch heute treffen noch eine Reihe von Eisenbahnlinien für Fracht- (z. B. CSX, BNSF) und Personenverkehr (z. B. Amtrak) in der Region zusammen.
Der öffentliche Nahverkehr in der Region St. Louis wird zu einem großen Teil von der MetroLink genannten Schnellbahn übernommen.[2]

Dubourg Hall, das Verwaltungsgebäude der Saint Louis UniversityIn der Region sind rund 209.000 Studenten an etwa 40 Colleges, Universitäten oder Technischen Hochschulen immatrikuliert. Die bekanntesten und größten Bildungseinrichtungen der Region sind die staatliche University of Missouri–St. Louis sowie die privaten Saint Louis University (die älteste westlich des Mississippi) und Washington University in St. Louis.
Daneben gibt es im St. Louis County die Webster University in Webster Groves, die Maryville University in Town and Country und die Fontbonne University in Clayton. In der Stadt St. Louis gibt es die Harris–Stowe State University.
In Illinois besteht in Edwardsville im Madison County die Southern Illinois University. Kleinere Hochschulen in Metro-East sind die McKendree University in Lebanon im St. Clair County und das Greenville College in Greenville im Bond County.
