Gökçebey hat 7.260 und der Landkreis 16.270 Einwohner (Stand 2010). Außer der Stadt Gökçebey gibt es im Landkreis noch zwei weitere Kommunen (Bakacakkadı und Hacımusa) und 18 Dörfer. Der Landkreis liegt im Osten Zonguldaks und grenzt an die Provinzen Bartın und Karabük.
