John Wijngaards

John Wijngaards (* 20. September 1935 in Surabaya, Indonesien) ist ein niederländischer Autor und christlicher Theologe.

Leben

Winjngaards verbrachte seine Kindheit in Südostasien. Er wurde Mitglied in der römisch-katholischen Missionsgesellschaft vom hl. Joseph von Mill Hill. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg studierte Wijngaards römisch-katholische Theologie. 1959 wurde er zum römisch-katholischen Priester ordiniert. Winjngaards studierte am Päpstlichen Bibelinstitut und 1963 gelang ihm der Doktor in katholischer Theologie an der Päpstlichen Universität Gregoriana in Rom. Nach seinem Studium war er von 1963 bis 1976 am St John's Major Seminar in Hyderabad, Indien tätig. Von 1976 bis 2009 war er Leiter der Missionsgesellschaft vom hl. Joseph von Mill Hill in London. Seit den 1970er Jahren setzte sich Winjngaards für die Zulassung der Frauenordination in der Katholischen Kirche ein. Er schrieb zu diesem Thema mehrere Bücher und viele Aufsätze in theologischen Zeitschriften. 1998 legte er aus Protest gegen die päpstlichen Schreiben Ordinatio Sacerdotalis und Ad Tuendam Fidem sein Amt als katholischer Priester nieder. ^[1]
