Thomas „Karate Thommi“ Born (* 23. Oktober 1951) ist ein ehemaliger Karate-Europameister.

Leben

Mit 13 Jahren trat Born dem Polizeisportverein Berlin bei, um Judo zu erlernen. Nach seinem Umzug nach Hamburg erwarb er mit 19 den Schwarzen Gürtel in Judo und gehörte zeitweise zum Olympiakader. Später kam der Schwarze Gürtel in Karate hinzu.

Nach dem Abitur ging Born zur Fallschirmjägertruppe der Bundeswehr. 1976 und 1977 gewann er die Europameisterschaften in Karate und eröffnete 1976 eine Kampfsportschule.

Als Kampfsportler wurde er Vorstandsmitglied der Nutella-Gang, einer Hamburger Zuhältergruppe. Bundesweit bekannt wurde er nach einer Schießerei am 22. Oktober 1982, bei der zwei Mitglieder der Nutella-Gang getötet und Born durch Verletzung im Bauch- und Unterarmsbereich schwer verletzt wurde.

Born hat sich heute aus dem Rotlichtmilieu zurückgezogen und erscheint in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung hauptsächlich durch Auftritte in Fernseh- und Talkshows.
