Top Gun ist das Soundtrackalbum zum Film Top Gun – Sie fürchten weder Tod noch Teufel von 1986. Das Liebesthema Take My Breath Away von Giorgio Moroder und Tom Whitlock gewann 1987 den Academy Award. Das Album wurde in den USA mehrfach mit Platinschallplatten ausgezeichnet[1] und gehört zu den meistverkauften Filmmusikalben[2].

Geschichte

Ursprünglich sollte Bryan Adams den Song Only the Strong Survive als Soundtrack beisteuern, doch er weigerte sich, da der Film seiner Meinung nach den Krieg glorifiziert.

Auch für den Soundtrack gedacht war das Lied Reckless von Judas Priest, dieser wurde nicht verwendet, da die Band erwartete, dass der Spielfilm ein Flop würde.

In dem Film Top Gun – Sie fürchten weder Tod noch Teufel konnte man auch die Lieder You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’, Great Balls of Fire und Giorgio Moroders Radar Radio (B-Seite von Take My Breath Away) hören, die jedoch nicht auf der LP-Version drauf sind. Zudem war die US-amerikanische Rockband Toto für die Erstinterpretation des Liedes Danger Zone ursprünglich vorgesehen.[3]

1999 erschien eine remasterte Version des Album mit der Bezeichnung „Special Expanded Version“, die fünf weitere Songs enthält.
