Heading Control

Der Spurhalteassistent (auch Spurassistent, engl. lane departure warning system (LDW)) warnt den Fahrer eines Fahrzeuges vor dem Verlassen der Fahrspur auf einer Straße. Hierbei sind unterschiedliche optische Systeme und Computer im Einsatz, mit deren Hilfe die Position des Fahrzeugs in der Fahrspur bestimmt wird. Das System warnt bei Unterschreitung des Abstandes zur Fahrbahnmarkierung (Distance to Line Crossing-Kriteriums (DLC)) und kann diese Unterschreitung mit Hilfe des Time to Line Crossing-Kriteriums (TLC) vorausberechnen.

Die Fahrspurerkennung kann durch ein Kamerasystem (z. B. Lane Guard System von MAN, akustische Warnung durch „Nagelbandrattern“ in den Lautsprechern) oder durch Infrarotsensorik am Unterboden des Fahrzeugs realisiert werden: Alarm bei Fahrspurabweichung durch Infrarot Linienerkennung - AFIL des Systemherstellers Valeo mit Warnung an der betreffenden Seite des Fahrersitzes durch den Einsatz zweier Vibrationsmotoren beim Citroën C4, Citroën C5 und Citroën C6.

Bei Bosch und Continental ist eine kleine Kamera hinter der Windschutzscheibe eingebaut (übliche Position des Regensensors). Diese erkennt Fahrbahnbegrenzungen sowie unbefestigte Straßenränder auf Nebenstrecken.

Lastkraftwagen

Bei Lastkraftwagen sind solche Systeme als Zubehör (gegen Aufpreis) verfügbar. z. B. die Firma Mercedes Benz und auch IVECO bieten dieses System an. Dort ist auch ein Abstandwarner verfügbar.

Spurhalteunterstützung

Die Spurhalteunterstützung (engl.: lane keeping support, heading control) unterstützt den Fahrer durch automatisiertes permanentes Mitlenken bei der Spurhaltung.
