Die Hofstra University ist eine private Universität in Hempstead im Nassau County (Long Island) im US-Bundesstaat New York. Derzeit sind hier 13.000 Studenten eingeschrieben.

Geschichte

Die Hofstra University wurde 1935 auf dem Gelände von William Hofstra und seiner Witwe Kate Williams Hofstra, einem reichen Holzhändler, gegründet. Zunächst startete sie als College der New York University und wurde einige Jahre später unabhängig. Ihren heutigen Namen erhielt sie 1963.
