Der Palast Palace of Holyrood House oder Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh ist die offizielle Residenz des britischen Königshauses in Schottland. Er befindet sich am östlichen Ende der Royal Mile, die von dort bis hinauf zum Edinburgh Castle führt. An das Schloss schließt sich der Holyrood Park an.

Im Jahr 1128 wurde an dieser Stelle die Holyrood Abbey (deutsch: Heilig-Kreuz-Abtei) gebaut. Diese Abtei war eine sogenannte Freistätte, sie diente damit als Zufluchtsort für Schuldner einschließlich des zur Abtei gehörenden Jagdgeländes. Das einstige Gästehaus der Abtei wurde schrittweise ausgebaut, wobei u. a. ein Wohnturm im Nordwesten der Anlage in den Jahren 1528 bis 1532 entstanden ist. Der Palace of Holyrood House wurde in seiner heutigen Form im 17. Jahrhundert erbaut.

Das Schloss ging in die Geschichte durch seine zeitweilige Bewohnerin Maria Stuart ein. Der Gebäudekomplex war auch Ort einiger dramatischer Ereignisse, wozu beispielsweise die Ermordung von David Rizzio, dem italienischen Sekretär von Maria Stuart, am 9. März 1566 gehörte.

Am 16. September 2010 empfing hier die Königin des Vereinigten Königreichs von Großbritannien und Nordirland Elisabeth II. zusammen mit dem Duke of Edinburgh offiziell den Papst. Mit Benedikt XVI. hat das erste amtliche Zusammentreffen anlässlich des ersten Staatsbesuches des Oberhauptes der römisch-katholischen Kirche in Großbritannien seit der Kirchenspaltung 1534 stattgefunden. Diese Begegnung fand in Schottland statt, weil die Queen dort nicht Oberhaupt der Kirche ist wie in England. Die Funktion der Königin als Kirchenoberhaupt wird vom Heiligen Stuhl nicht anerkannt, obwohl ihr diesbezüglicher Titel als Defender of the Faith (lateinisch: Fidei Defensor) ursprünglich von Papst Leo X. dem Vorgänger Heinrich VIII. erteilt wurde.
