Nanded (Marathi: नांदेड, Nāndeḍ) ist eine indische Stadt mit etwa 550.000 Einwohnern (Volkszählung 2011). Sie ist Hauptstadt des Distrikts Nanded in der Region Marathwada im Bundesstaat Maharashtra.

Geografie

Die Stadt liegt auf einer Höhe von 346 m ü. NN am Nordufer des Godavari. Nächste größere Stadt ist Aurangabad, gut 200 Kilometer westnordwestlich.

Geschichte

Der Sage nach reisten schon die Pandavas durch die Stadt. 1708, ein Jahr nach dem Tod Aurangzebs, kam Gobind Singh, der zehnte geistliche Führer der Sikhs, in die Stadt und proklamierte sich zum Guru Granth Sahib als ewiger Guru der Sikhs. Nanded ist seitdem ein wichtiger Gurdwara.
