Die Third World Academy of Sciences TWAS ist eine nichtstaatliche Akademie der Wissenschaften. Sitz der Akademie ist das International Centre for Theoretical Physics ICTP in Triest, Italien.
Die Akademie wurde 1983 als „TWAS-the academy of sciences for the developing world“ von dem pakistanischen Nobelpreisträger Abdus Salam (1926–1996) mit weiteren Wissenschaftlern gegründet. Ziel ist es, die wissenschaftliche Arbeit in Entwicklungsländern zu fördern und eine nachhaltige Entwicklung auf der Südhalbkugel zu verfolgen.
Die Akademie hat über 800 gewählte Mitglieder aus 90 Ländern.
