William Lane Craig (2005)

William Lane Craig (* 23. August 1949) ist ein amerikanischer Philosoph, Theologe und christlicher Apologetiker. Er ist gegenwärtig Professor für Philosophie an der Talbot School of Theology, Biola University in La Mirada, Kalifornien und hat zahlreiche Bücher über Religionsphilosophie, den historischen Jesus, christliche Weltanschauung und Intelligent Design verfasst. Craig ist Mitglied des Center for Science and Culture des Discovery Institute, des Zentrums der Intelligent Design Bewegung.

Leben

William Craig wurde mit sechzehn Jahren evangelikaler Christ. Craig studierte bei Stuart Hackett Philosophie und wurde durch die Schriften der Calvinisten Francis Schaeffer and Edward John Carnell stark beeinflusst.

Craig promovierte in Philosophie bei John Hick in Birmingham und 1984 in Theologie bei Wolfhart Pannenberg an der Universität München (als Stipendiat der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung).

Von 1980 bis 1986 war er Professor an der Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Von 1987 bis 1994 forschte er an der Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgien.

William Craig ist verheiratet und lebt in Atlanta, Georgia.

Weltanschauung

Craig ist ein entschiedener Verteidiger des christlichen Theismus und der Historizität der Auferstehung Jesu Christi. Er ist dafür bekannt, dass er den kausalen Gottesbeweis wieder aktuell gemacht hat. Er verfasste Werke über Kosmologie und die Philosophie der Zeit und ist Gründungsmitglied der Philosophy of Time Society. Craig vertritt in seiner Neo-Lorentzschen Interpretation entgegen der üblichen Interpretation der Relativitätstheorie die Notwendigkeit eines absoluten Bezugssystems, wofür er philosophische und theologische Gründe geltend macht.

Craig ist ein offener Kritiker von philosophischem Naturalismus, Skeptizismus und philosophischem Relativismus, liberaler Theologie, der Evolutionstheorie und des Jesus-Seminars.
