Das Welternährungsprogramm (engl.: World Food Programme, WFP) ist ein Nebenorgan der Vereinten Nationen mit Sitz in Rom, Italien. Die Gründung wurde 1961 von der UN-Generalversammlung und der Ernährungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation (FAO) beschlossen, um die Nahrungsmittelversorgung in Kriegs- und Katastrophengebieten zu sichern. 1963 nahm es seine Arbeit offiziell auf. Mittlerweile ist WFP die weltweit größte und leistungsfähigste Einrichtung zur Versorgung von Notopfern. Zudem führt sie zahlreiche Entwicklungsprojekte durch.

Außerdem verwaltet WFP die 1975 eingerichtete Internationale Nahrungsmittel-Notreserve (engl.: International Emergency Food Reserve, IEFR). Hierbei sind die Mitgliedstaaten der Vereinten Nationen aufgefordert, freiwillig insgesamt 500.000 Tonnen Getreide jährlich zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte entstand eine enge Zusammenarbeit des WFP mit zahlreichen internationalen Hilfsorganisationen und nichtstaatlichen Organisationen. Die wachsende Armut und die permanenten Hungerkatastrophen führten 1996 zur Gründung eines Exekutivrates, dem 36 Mitgliedstaaten angehören. Er soll die Zusammenarbeit sowie die finanziellen und logistischen Herausforderungen bei den Hilfseinsätzen koordinieren.

Im Jahr 2008 versorgte das Welternährungsprogramm 73 Millionen Menschen in 78 Ländern mit Lebensmitteln. Aufgrund der seit Beginn des Jahres weltweit drastisch gestiegenen Nahrungsmittelpreise entstanden Finanzierungslücken in Höhe von 756 Millionen Dollar, so dass die Organisation erwägen musste, einzelne Projekte wie die Schulspeisung in Kambodscha und anderen Ländern auszusetzen.

Das WFP verwaltet die UN-eigene Fluggesellschaft United Nations Humanitarian Air Service mit Sitz in Rom.
