Single-User-Display

Bei einem Single-User-Display (auch 3D-LC-Display, kurz 3D-LCD) handelt es sich um ein autostereoskopisches Display, also um einen Bildschirm, der Bilder für den Betrachter dreidimensional darstellt, ohne dass für den korrekten Stereoeindruck eine spezielle Brille benötigt wird. Der verwendete Bildschirm ist ein Flüssigkristallbildschirm. Einer der ersten kommerziellen Einsätze stellt das von Nintendo Ende März 2011 veröffentlichte Handgerät Nintendo 3DS dar. Hier vermittelt der obere Bildschirm dem Spieler eine räumliche Tiefe.

Funktionsweise

Die Tiefenwirkung wird dadurch hervorgerufen, dass der Bildschirm zwei getrennte Bilder anzeigt, eines für das linke Auge, eines für das rechte, dies wird durch eine Rundprismenscheibe realisiert, das aus konvex gewölbten vertikalen Streifen über jeweils zwei Bildpunkten besteht. Da sich der Kopf des Benutzers während des Betrachtens des Bildschirms bewegt, muss das Bild ständig nachkorrigiert werden. Dazu wird zuerst die Augenbewegung des Betrachters mittels zweier Kameras am Bildschirm und Blickerfassung (engl. eye tracking) erfasst, einschließlich der Entfernung zum Bildschirm. Anschließend wird das Bild an die Lage des Betrachters angepasst, so dass dieser das Bild korrekt räumlich wahrnehmen kann. Da der Bildschirm immer nur auf ein Augenpaar eingehen kann, heißt dieses autostereoskopische Display Single-User-Display. Die zuletzt genannte Technik wird nicht bei allen 3D-LC-Displays angewandt.

Eine Besonderheit stellt das Modell des Heinrich-Hertz-Instituts dar. Mit diesem kann man sich zusätzlich Filme dreidimensional anschauen. Eine Besonderheit bildet auch die Bedienung des Bildschirms; die Menüoberfläche reagiert nämlich auf Bewegungen im Raum, das heißt, der Benutzer muss nicht einmal den Bildschirm berühren, um ein bestimmtes Feld anzuklicken.
