Edwin Hatch

Edwin Hatch (* 4. September 1835 in Derby, Derbyshire, England; † 10. November 1899 in Oxford) war ein englischer Theologe und Septuagintaforscher.

Hatch besuchte die King Edward's School in Birmingham, die seinerzeit von James Prince Lee (1804–1869) geleitet wurde und später das Pembroke College in Oxford. Ab 1857 studierte er dort neben Theologie auch Klassische Altertumswissenschaft und gewann im folgenden Jahr den Ellerton prize. Von 1859 bis 1862 war er Professor für Klassische Altertumswissenschaft am Trinity College in Toronto und wurde dann Rektor der High school in Quebec. 1867 kehrte er nach Oxford zurück und übernahm dort bis 1885 den Posten des vice-principal of St Mary Hall. 1883 verlieh ihm die Universität Edinburgh den Grad eines Doktors der Theologie.

Die ab 1897 von ihm gemeinsam mit Henry Redpath herausgegebene umfangreiche Konkordanz zur Septuaginta (zitiert als Hatch-Redpath) gilt bis heute als bibelwissenschaftliches Grundlagenwerk.
