Das Internationale Zentrum zur Beilegung von Investitionsstreitigkeiten (engl. International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes – ICSID) ist ein Teil der Weltbankgruppe.
Die ICSID ist eine unabhängige internationale Organisation, die im Rahmen der „Konvention über die Beilegung von Investitionsstreitigkeiten zwischen Staaten und Staatsbürgern anderer Länder“ gegründet wurde. Rechtsgrundlage ist das „Übereinkommen zur Beilegung von Investitionsstreitigkeiten zwischen Staaten und Angehörigen anderer Staaten“ von 1965. Ohne selbst als Schlichter oder Mediator aufzutreten, unterstützt das ICSID durch Festlegung bestimmter Regelungen und Übernahme administrativer Tätigkeiten die Durchführung von Schlichtungs-/Mediationsverfahren im Bereich grenzüberschreitender Investitionen. Der ergangene Schiedsspruch muss vom Mitgliedsland unmittelbar und wie ein Urteil, das durch eigene Gerichte ergangen ist, umgesetzt werden. Bis Mitte der achtziger Jahre war der Schlichtungsmechanismus des ICSID ausschließlich Bestandteil konkreter, einzelner Verträge. Inzwischen findet sich die generelle Verpflichtung von Regierungen, sich bei Investitionsstreitigkeiten dem Schlichtungsmechanismus des ICSID zu unterwerfen, auch in circa 20 Investitionsgesetzen und in über 2000 bilateralen Investitionsschutzabkommen.
Das ICSID wurde 1966 gegründet; im Juni 2008 haben die ICSID-Konvention 155 Länder gezeichnet, wovon 143 die Ratifikationsurkunden hinterlegt haben und damit Vertragsstaaten geworden sind. Deutschland ist Gründungsmitglied. Im Geschäftsjahr 2008 verzeichnete ICSID einen Rekordanstieg auf 48 Anrufungen zur Schlichtung und Mediation von Investitionsstreitigkeiten (seit Gründung 268 Fälle).
Mit Wirkung zum 1. November 2007 ist Bolivien aus ICSID ausgetreten.
