Michael D. Coe (* 1929 in New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Anthropologe und Altamerikanist.

Coe wurde 1959 an der Harvard University promoviert. Unmittelbar nach seinem Studium arbeitete Coe acht Monate als Führungsoffizier für die CIA in Südostasien als Mitglied von Western Enterprises, einer Tarnorganisation in Taiwan, um China unter Mao Zedong zu destabilisieren.[1]

Coe war Professor für Anthropologie an der Yale University sowie von 1968 bis 1994 Kurator an der anthropologischen Sammlung des Peabody Museum of Natural History. Er ist anerkannter Experte für Archäologie Mittelamerikas und der nordöstlichen Vereinigten Staaten. Einer seiner besonderen Forschungsschwerpunkte ist die Erforschung der Maya-Schrift.
