Das Dschungelbuch ist ein US-amerikanischer Abenteuerfilm von Stephen Sommers aus dem Jahr 1994. Er basiert auf der Sammlung der Erzählungen Dschungelbuch von Rudyard Kipling aus den Jahren 1894/1895.

Handlung

Mowgli träumt von dem Tiger Shire Khan und der Schlange Kaa. Er entfernt sich von einer Expedition im Dschungel als der Tiger sich als real erweist und die Expedition angreift. Mowgli wächst im Dschungel auf. Er freundet sich mit den Tieren an.

Als Erwachsener geht Mowgli in eine Stadt. Er trifft Katherine ("Kitty") Brydon, die er bereits als Kind kannte. Mowgli verliebt sich in Kitty, obwohl sie inzwischen eine Beziehung mit dem Captain William Boone verbindet. Trotz der Hilfe, die ihm Kitty, ihr Vater Colonel Geoffrey Brydon und Dr. Julien Plumford leisten, fühlt sich Mowgli unter den Menschen unwohl.

Kritiken

Roger Ebert schrieb in der Chicago Sun-Times, dass der Film mit der Romanvorlage wenig gemeinsam habe. Der Film unterhalte; Jason Scott Lee sei talentiert. [1]

Der Film wurde 1995 für den Saturn Award nominiert.

Sonstiges

Die Produktion des Films kostete 27 Millionen US-Dollar. Er brachte in den US-Kinos über 44 Millionen US-Dollar ein.
