Lage Toyamas in der Präfektur

Toyama (jap. 富山市, -shi) ist eine Stadt und Verwaltungssitz der Präfektur Toyama auf Honshū der Hauptinsel von Japan und liegt an der Küste zum Japanischen Meer an der Toyama-Bucht. Toyama ist seit 1949 Universitätsstadt.

Neben Maschinenbau hat die pharmazeutische Industrie und eine Erdölraffinerie wirtschaftliche Bedeutung. In einem Bergwerk in der Nähe der Stadt findet das Kamiokande-Experiment statt, bei dem die Lebensdauer des Protons bestimmt werden soll.

Im Japanischen Meer vor der Toyama-Bucht ist die Heimat des Leuchtkalmars.
