Karen Van Dyck

Karen Rhoads Van Dyck (* 25. Januar 1961) ist eine Neogräzistin und Komparatistin und Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Hellenic Studies am Department of Classics der Columbia University, New York, USA.

Van Dyck studierte seit 1979 Neugriechische Literatur an der Princeton University, der Wesleyan University, der Aristoteles-Universität Thessaloniki und am St Antony’s College der Universität Oxford. In Oxford wurde sie 1990 mit einer Dissertation über The Poetics of Censorship in Greek Poetry, 1967-1990 bei Peter Mackridge und Terry Eagleton und der externen Gutachterin Margaret Alexiou zum D.Phil. promoviert. Nach verschiedenen Lehraufträgen an der Universität Oxford, am King’s College London und an der University of Michigan wurde sie 1988 zum Lecturer, 1991 zum Assistant Professor, 1996 zum Associate Professor und 2004 zum Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Hellenic Studies an der Columbia University ernannt.

Van Dyck arbeitet zur neugriechischen Literatur und Kultur, zur Gender-Theorie, zur griechischen Diaspora und zur Translatologie. Darüber hinaus pflegt sie ein Interesse an der Vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft und der Literaturtheorie.
