Raymundo Joseph Peña

Raymundo Joseph Peña (* 19. Februar 1934 in Corpus Christi) ist Altbischof von Brownsville.

Leben

Der Bischof von Corpus Christi, Mariano Simon Garriga, weihte ihn am 25. Mai 1957 zum Priester und wurde in den Klerus des Bistums Corpus Christi inkardiniert. Paul VI. ernannte ihn am 16. Oktober 1976 zum Weihbischof in San Antonio und Titularbischof von Trisipa.

Die Bischofsweihe spendete ihm der Erzbischof von San Antonio, Francis James Furey, am 13. Dezember desselben Jahres; Mitkonsekratoren waren Patrick Fernández Flores, Weihbischof in San Antonio, und Thomas Joseph Drury, Bischof von Corpus Christi.

Am 29. April 1980 wurde er zum Bischof von El Paso ernannt und am 18. Juni desselben Jahres in das Amt eingeführt. Am 23. Mai 1994 wurde er zum Bischof von Brownsville ernannt und am 6. August des nächsten Jahres in das Amt eingeführt. Am 9. Dezember 2009 nahm Papst Benedikt XVI. seinen altersbedingten Rücktritt an.
