Mit Endorsement (engl. to endorse = fürsprechen, unterstützen) bzw. Endorsement-Vertrag bezeichnet man eine vertragliche Bindung eines bekannten Musikers (sogenannte Endorser) an eine bestimmte Firma, hauptsächlich Hersteller von Musikinstrumenten. Ähnlich dem Testimonial wirbt der Musiker für Produkte, indem er diese bei Live-Auftritten und bei Aufnahmen einsetzt. Meist wird auf den Werbeplakaten für Tourneen und auf den Hüllen der Ton- beziehungsweise Bildträger für die jeweiligen Instrumente geworben. Der so beworbene Hersteller verspricht sich dadurch einen besonders glaubwürdigen und auch weitreichenden Werbeeffekt. Der werbende Musiker erhält als Gegenleistung ein Honorar oder bekommt kostenlos Instrumente des Herstellers zur Verfügung gestellt.

Manche Künstler streichen hingegen ihre Unabhängigkeit von den Herstellerfirmen heraus, indem sie auf Fotos und bei Live-Auftritten die Firmennamen auf ihren Instrumenten abkleben oder anderweitig unkenntlich machen.

Signature-Modelle bei Musikinstrumenten

Viele Hersteller bringen Sondermodelle unter dem Namen von bestimmten Künstlern auf den Markt, die sogenannten Signature-Modelle. Zum Teil werden solche Modelle in Zusammenarbeit mit dem betreffenden Musiker entwickelt. Besonders verbreitet ist dieses Vorgehen bei Herstellern von Gitarren und Schlagzeugen, die neben den eigentlichen Instrumenten häufig auch Zubehör wie Drumsticks oder Gitarrensaiten in Signature-Varianten anbieten. Ein Beispiel für ein Signature-Musikinstrument ist das für den Gitarrenvirtuosen Steve Vai entwickelte E-Gitarrenmodell Ibanez JEM.
