Gabriele Pasquale Giuseppe Rossetti (* 28. Februar 1783 in Vasto; † 24. April 1854 in London) war ein italienischer Dichter und Gelehrter.

Leben

Wegen seiner Unterstützung für Giuseppe Garibaldi musste Rossetti 1821 aus Neapel fliehen und kam drei Jahre später über Malta nach England. Dort fand er eine Stelle als Italienischlehrer und wurde Professor am King's College in London. Mit 43 Jahren heiratete er Frances Mary Lavinia Polidori, deren Vater Gaetano ebenfalls aus Italien geflüchtet war. Die Ehe wird – abgesehen von Geldschwierigkeiten – als glücklich beschrieben. Aus der gemeinsamen Verbindung gingen vier Kinder hervor:
