Das Sarasota County[1] ist ein County im Bundesstaat Florida der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Der Verwaltungssitz (County Seat) ist Sarasota.

Geschichte

Das Sarasota County wurde am 14. Mai 1921 aus Teilen des Manatee County gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach einem Wort aus der Sprache der Calusa-Indianer, das Felsenmarkierung bedeutet.

Geografie

Das County hat eine Fläche von 1.878 Quadratkilometern, wovon 398 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt im Uhrzeigersinn an folgende Countys: Manatee County, De Soto County und Charlotte County. Das Klima ist tropisch. Die Temperaturen sind durchgehend warm.

Nach der Volkszählung im Jahr 2000 lebten im Sarasota County 325.957 Menschen in 149.937 Haushalten und 94.460 Familien. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug 220 Einwohner pro Quadratkilometer. Ethnisch betrachtet setzte sich die Bevölkerung zusammen aus 92,65 Prozent Weißen, 4,18 Prozent Afroamerikanern, 0,22 Prozent amerikanischen Ureinwohnern, 0,77 Prozent Asiaten, 0,03 Prozent Bewohnern aus dem pazifischen Inselraum und 1,14 Prozent aus anderen ethnischen Gruppen; 1,02 Prozent stammten von zwei oder mehr Ethnien ab. 4,34 Prozent der Gesamtbevölkerung waren spanischer oder lateinamerikanischer Abstammung.

Von den 149.957 Haushalten hatten 18,3 Prozent Kinder und Jugendliche unter 19 Jahre, die bei ihnen lebten. 52,7 Prozent waren verheiratete, zusammenlebende Paare, 7,7 Prozent waren allein erziehende Mütter und 37,0 Prozent waren keine Familien. 30,4 Prozent waren Singlehaushalte und in 16,9 Prozent lebten Menschen im Alter von 65 Jahren oder darüber. Die Durchschnittshaushaltsgröße betrug 2,13 und die durchschnittliche Familiengröße betrug 2,61 Personen.

16,2 Prozent der Bevölkerung waren unter 18 Jahre alt, 5,0 Prozent zwischen 18 und 24, 21,7 Prozent zwischen 25 und 44, 25,6 Prozent zwischen 45 und 64 und 31,5 Prozent der Bevölkerung war 65 Jahre oder älter. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug 50 Jahre. Auf 100 weibliche Personen kamen statistisch 90,0 männliche Personen und auf 100 Frauen im Alter von 18 Jahren oder darüber kamen 87,3 Männer.

Das jährliche Durchschnittseinkommen eines Haushalts betrug 41.957 USD, das Durchschnittseinkommen der Familien 50.111 USD. Männer hatten ein Durchschnittseinkommen von 32.114 USD, Frauen 25.721 USD. Das Prokopfeinkommen betrug 28.326 USD. 5,1 Prozent der Familien und 7,8 Prozent der Bevölkerung lebten unterhalb der Armutsgrenze. [3]
