Great Manchester Run

Der Great Manchester Run ist ein Straßenlauf über 10 km, der seit 2003 in Manchester stattfindet. Er gehört wie der Great North Run und der Great South Run zur Great-Run-Serie von Nova International Limited und ist eine der populärsten Laufveranstaltungen im Vereinigten Königreich.

2009 wurde die Veranstaltung durch die Great City Games ergänzt, für die eine gerade 150-Meter-Bahn ausgelegt wurde. Das Sprint-Rennen über die selten ausgetragene Distanz gewann der jamaikanische Olympiasieger Usain Bolt in der Weltbestzeit von 14,35 Sekunden; bei den Frauen siegte Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie von den Bahamas in 16,54 s.[1]

Bei den Great CityGames Manchester 2010 brach der US-Amerikaner Tyson Gay mit 19,41 s die 44 Jahre alte Weltbestzeit von Tommie Smith (19,5 s) für einen 200-Meter-Lauf auf einer Geraden.[2][3]

Strecke

Der Kurs startet in der Innenstadt auf der Portland Street, führt nach Südwesten zum Stadion Old Trafford und endet im Stadtzentrum auf dem Deansgate.
