William Holmes

William Holmes (* 1872 in New York; † 20. Jahrhundert) war ein US-amerikanischer Cutter beim Film.

William Holmes sammelte 1925 erste Erfahrungen im Filmgeschäft als Schnittassistent von Fred Niblos Stummfilm-Klassiker Ben Hur. 1929 wurde er von Warner Brothers unter Vertrag genommen, wo er fortan mit einer Reihe namhafter Regisseure zusammenarbeitete, wie Mervyn LeRoy, Frank Borzage, Howard Hawks, Raoul Walsh und John Huston.

1942 gewann er einen Oscar in der Kategorie Bester Schnitt für Sergeant York mit Gary Cooper in der Hauptrolle.

Weitere Filme, für die Holmes als Schnittmeister arbeitete, waren Opfer einer großen Liebe (Dark Victory, 1939) mit Bette Davis, Sein letztes Kommando (They Died with Their Boots On, 1941) mit Errol Flynn sowie Schönste der Stadt (The Strawberry Blonde, 1941) mit James Cagney.
