Betanin (auch Betanoin, Betenrot oder umgangssprachlich Beetenrot) ist ein natürlicher, roter Farbstoff, der vor allem in der Roten Rübe, aber auch in den Blüten und Früchten anderer Pflanzen zu finden ist.

Das Glycosid Betanin ist ein wasserlösliches Pigment, das empfindlich auf Licht und Wärme reagiert. Als Indikator wird es in einem basischen Milieu grün. Betanin ist unter der Nummer E 162 als Lebensmittelzusatzstoff zugelassen und wird als Lebensmittelfarbe für Fruchtgelees, Kaugummi, Essig, Saucen, Speiseeis, Joghurt, Marmelade, Frühstücksgetreideprodukte u. a. Lebensmittel verwendet.
