Sie ist eine der kleinsten staatlichen Universitäten in England, mit knapp 7000 Studenten in Grund- (Undergraduate) sowie Hauptstudiums- (Postgraduate) Kursen. Es gibt vier Fachbereiche an der Universität:
- Aston Business School (ABS)
- School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (EAS)
- School of Languages and Social Studies (LSS)
- School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS)
Internationale Bekanntheit haben vor allem die ABS und LHS erlangt, was insbesondere bei der ABS für stark steigende Bewerberzahlen besonders aus dem Ausland gesorgt hat. Zurzeit gibt es pro Studienplatz in der ABS 13 Bewerbungen (2004). Die Studienplätze werden wie bei allen Universitäten in Großbritannien zentral über UCAS für die Undergraduate Programs vermittelt.
Aston hat den besten "Employment Record" aller britischen Universitäten, d.h. den höchstes Anteil an Studenten, die innerhalb von sechs Monaten nach Studienabschluss einen Arbeitsplatz finden.
Das MBA-Programm der Universität Aston hat sich mittlerweile als eines der besten der Welt etablieren können, die Master (MSc)-Kurse der Aston Business School wurden von der Financial Times als zwölftbestes Master-Studienprogramm weltweit bewertet.
