Geschichte
Die University of Surrey geht auf das „Battersea Polytechnic Institute“ zurück, das 1891 gegründet wurde. 1956 fand eine Umbenennung in „Battersea College of Technology“ statt. Nachdem das College zu Beginn der 1960er Jahre für die Gebäude in Battersea zu groß wurde, wurde beschlossen nach Guildford umzuziehen.
1966 wurde die University of Surrey offiziell gegründet und 1970 konnte der Umzug von Battersea nach Guildford abgeschlossen werden.
Früher Besucher des neuen Campus war die Band Led Zeppelin, die am 15. Oktober 1968 einen Auftritt an der Universität hatte.

Deutschland
Die University of Surrey bietet ihr berufsbegleitendes MBA-Programm (Master of Business Administration) sowie das DBA-Programm (Doctor of Business Administration) auch in Deutschland an. Das deutsche Studien-Center der University of Surrey befindet sich in Lippstadt an der privaten International Business School (IBS). Die IBS hat mit den akademischen Inhalten der Studienprogramme allerdings nichts zu tun, sondern stellt lediglich die Räumlichkeiten sowie den organisatorischen Rahmen in Deutschland zur Verfügung[1].
Die MBA- und DBA-Programme funktionieren nach dem Modell einer „flying faculty“, das heißt, dass die Professoren der School of Management für die jeweiligen Module aus England „eingeflogen“ werden. Für die deutschen Studenten besteht darüber hinaus die Möglichkeit, Seminare und Workshops vor Ort in Großbritannien zu besuchen. Die Verkehrssprache ist Englisch, d.h. die Dissertationen und auch die übrige akademische Leistungserbringung (Examensprüfungen, Hausarbeiten, Referate, Präsentationen etc.) sind ebenfalls ausschließlich in englischer Sprache zu erstellen.
Die MBA- und DBA-Abschlüsse der School of Management sind durch folgende Organisationen akkreditiert [2]:
