Safranin T (arab. zafaran, Gelbsein) ist ein Derivat des Phenazins. Es ist ein Vertreter aus der Reihe der Safranine, mit Färbungen zwischen rot und violett.

Gewinnung und Darstellung

Der Farbstoff wird synthetisch aus einer Mischung von o-Toluidin, Anilin mit Salzsäure und Natriumnitrit hergestellt.[2]

Verwendung

Safranin T wird zu Färbezwecken in der Mikroskopie verwendet.[2] Zudem als Färbemittel für Leder.[2] In der chemischen Analytik auch als pH- und Redoxindikator gebraucht.[2] Die oxidierte Form ist hierbei rot, die reduzierte ist farblos.[3] Es kann auch zur Gram-Färbung von Bakterien verwendet werden. Zudem findet es mit Astrablau in Doppelfärbung Verwendung, wobei es verholzte Zellwände rot färbt, während unverholzte Zellwände durch Astrablau blau gefärbt werden.
