(6. Januar 2009, 11. Mai 2008)Betriebssystem: Plattformunabhängig Kategorie: Emulator Lizenz: Custom www.mess.org M.E.S.S. ist ein Akronym für Multiple Emulator Super System. MESS ist ein Emulator für viele Spielekonsolen und Computersysteme.
Die Zielsetzung von MESS ist die Erhaltung jahrzehntelanger Computer- und Konsolengeschichte. Als die technologische Entwicklung immer weiter voranschritt, fing das Programmierteam von MESS an, diese wichtigen, alten Systeme vor dem Vergessen zu bewahren. MESS basiert auf dem MAME-Kern.
MESS emuliert Handhelds und Spielkonsolen, Computer und Taschenrechner. Der Schwerpunkt des Projektes liegt (wie auch bei MAME) auf Genauigkeit und Übertragbarkeit, weshalb es nicht immer der schnellste Emulator für ein bestimmtes System ist.
Es werden zur Zeit 732 Systeme (621 Computer und 111 Konsolenspielsysteme) davon 472 Klone von 169 Herstellern emuliert (Stand: Ver. 0.128 vom 20. Oktober 2008).
Für die meisten Systeme werden zusätzlich sogenannte ROM-Abbilder (Images) der einzelnen Betriebssystem-Dateien und oft auch der damals benutzten Speichermedien (z.B. Diskettenimages) benötigt. Diese werden aus urheberrechtlichen Gründen, wie bei vielen anderen Emulatoren auch, nicht mitgeliefert.
