Er wurde 1996 vom Weltraumbahnhof Baikonur in Kasachstan ins All befördert. Aktuell (August 2011) befindet sich der Satellit auf der Position 51° Ost[1].

Empfang
Der Satellit kann in Europa und im Nahen Osten empfangen werden. Die Übertragung erfolgt im Ku-Band.
Sender
Der Satellit sendet 13 analoge deutsche, 23 freie digitale deutsche und früher 43 verschlüsselte digitale deutsche Sender von Premiere und Arena aus. Premiere wird nun über einen anderen Satellit übertragen, da es mit diesem Probleme gab. Nun ist Premiere in weiten Teilen Europas zu empfangen.
