Er wurde 1999 vom Weltraumbahnhof Baikonur in Kasachstan ins All befördert.
In Kürze soll Astra 2C auf 19,2° Ost positioniert werden und so womöglich Astra 1H bis zum Start von Astra 1N ablösen.

Empfang
Der Satellit kann in Europa und teilweise in der Levante-Region im Nahen Osten empfangen werden.[1] [2] Er sendet im Wesentlichen die digitalen Rundfunk- und Fernsehprogramme von ARD, ZDF und Pro Sieben, sowie die Regionalprogramme der ARD und des WDR.
Die Übertragung erfolgt im Ku-Band.
