Er wurde 2000 vom Weltraumbahnhof Kourou in Französisch-Guayana ins All befördert.
Der Ausleuchtungszone ist auf die Britischen Inseln fokussiert, daher ist der Empfang am Rande der Ausleuchtzone oft schwierig.
Viele britische Fernsehsender, darunter auch die BBC, sind unter Freesat (markengeschützter Name für Programmpakete von BBC und ITV) frei zu empfangen.
Empfang
Der Satellit kann in West-Europa (Belgien, Island, Niederlande, Luxemburg, Nordfrankreich und Westdeutschland) empfangen werden.
Die Übertragung erfolgt im Ku-Band.
